Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been granted bail by Kibera Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani. The governor was due back in court Friday morning to know his fate after the prosecution sought to have him detained for two weeks for them to conclude guns possession investigation.
He was released on a Sh. 200, 000 cash bail as court dismisses application to detain him pending conclusion of firearms possession probe.
Obado has been in police cells since Wednesday when he was arrested following the discovery of eight guns in his house during a raid by EACC detectives who are investigating him over sh2.5 billion graft.
According to a senior prosecutor, Catherine Mwaniki, detectives wanted time to ascertain if any of the guns in Obado’s possession was used to commit any crime.
But Obado’s lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Rodger Sagana are however, opposed to the application to deny Obado bond, terming it a witch hunt and clear violation of his rights.
Obado is out on bond in a murder case in which he is accused of killing his lover Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.
