ODM party leader Raila Odinga has flagged off a consignment of relief aid to be transported to various parts of the country that were affected by the devastating floods.
In his statement during the flagging off of relief food and non-food stuff on Tuesday, Raila expressed gratitude for the generous donations from Kenyans, emphasizing that giving does not make one poor.
“It is worth noting that no one has ever become poor from giving. The generous donations from Kenyans towards this cause is a clear indication that we all care for our fellow countrymen. This is the spirit,” said Raila.

Odinga further stated that the party will continue to stand with the flood victims, highlighting the unity and care shown by Kenyans towards their fellow Kenyans.
“As a party, we shall continue to stand with the victims of this catastrophic disaster and help where necessary in the spirit of oneness as a country,” the statement read in part.
The opposition party leader termed the rains as a blessing to the nation in terms of agriculture and food security but also recognized the devastation caused by the rains to thousands of people.
He called for unity in dealing with this unpredictable natural disaster, emphasizing the importance of helping one another.
“However, moments like these call for unity to face the problem together and holistically. A neighbour’s problem should be my problem, and a brother’s misfortune should be a reason for coming together with only one objective. HELP,” said Raila.
The flag off took place days after the Orange Democratic Movement party called for support from Kenyans and well-wishers for their drive.
The ODM party announced the initiation of the ODM Disaster Response Committee on 11th May 2024.
