The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) took an active role in a dynamic open discussion forum organized by Sema Ukweli, a civic rights group, in Nairobi.
The event brought together government agencies, stakeholders, civic education tutors, and grassroots citizen journalists to discuss the challenges faced by these stakeholders in their line of duty.
Representing the ODPP were Duncan Ondimu, Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel; Carole Muema, Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Communications; and David Shikami, Deputy Head of Communications.
The trio engaged in meaningful dialogue with participants, focusing on the critical role that government agencies play in public sensitization, empowerment, and the dispensation of justice.
During the forum, the ODPP team shared insights into the office’s role, vision, and mandate, highlighting key areas such as the decision to charge, diversion, and plea bargain processes.
These discussions aimed to enhance the understanding of the public and stakeholders on how the ODPP operates within the justice system.
“The constructive engagement explored, among others, the role of government agencies in the sensitization of the public, empowerment and dispensation of justice,” stated the ODPP.
Also present at the event were Catherine Wambui, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the Judiciary, and Eric Ngumbi, spokesperson for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Their contributions added depth to the conversation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among government bodies in promoting civic education and ensuring justice is served at all levels.
The forum provided a valuable platform for constructive engagement, fostering a deeper connection between government agencies and the public they serve.
The ODPP reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective communication in fulfilling its mandate to uphold justice in Kenya.
