Offer not CBA, doctors decline 40% pay increment

Doctors have declined President Uhuru Kenyatta’s pay hike package of 40% and vowed to continue with their demos until everything is sorted.

Led by KMPDU chair, Samuel Oroko, and Secretary General, Ouma Oluga, the medics said they appreciate the offer tabled by the government during a meeting at State House, Mombasa.

Through Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), the doctors declined the package.

The insisted that they will only resume duty once a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed in 2013 is implemented in full.

Speaking on behalf of the doctors, Oluga said that it was not near enough but said they would continue with negotiations with the government.

“The union officials today presented that offer to the doctors for deliberations and they humbly rejected it,” said KMPDU chair.

The offer was termed outside CBA adding that ‘the governments offer leaves out the need to equip hospitals with equipment and drugs’.

The doctors reportedly declined the offer that would benefit them and leave the public domain to suffer.

Among some of the demands outlined by the 2013 CBA, KMPDU want research funding to improve clinical management and outcome, structures of promotions and transfers, medical compensation for the doctorsr, structures to address discplinary measures and code of conduct for doctors and measures to address the security of doctors at work.
