ONE KILLED AS COMMUNITY BATTLES OVER LAND IN NAROK EAST

One person has been shot dead using an arrow at Oltepesi Leparsimei village in Narok East Sub County following a land conflict that has since escalated to community warfare. The clash ensued after the 35 year old man decided to construct a temporary house on the disputed piece of land. Several other people are nursing arrow wounds following the clash that has forced the security agencies in Narok East, elected leaders and the ministry of land officials to intervene and resolve the conflict.

Narok East Deputy county commissioner, Eric Wamulevu urged the community to refrain from engaging in violence maintaining that surveyors will visit the region tomorrow to ascertain the disputed boundary. He confirmed that a 35 year old man lost his life during the clash. Wamulevu stated that the perpetrators of violence will be arrested and charged in court. The deputy county commissioner said the security team is working closely with a committee of 13 people including the clergy to ensure that peace is restored in the area.

Narok East Member of Parliament Ken Aramat called on the Judiciary to resolve the stalemate as the community has been in and out of courtrooms since 2014. Aramat said it is unfortunate for members of the public to lose a life in a matter that could have been resolved amicably in court questioning why the judiciary has taken over 16 years to resolve the land dispute. He urged the two families who have been engaged in the fight to cease fire and allow authorities to resolve the stalemate.

George Mishuko called on the security team to move with speed and arrest the perpetrators of violence in the region. Mishuko also called on the Ministry of lands to demarcate the boundaries and issue title deeds to avert further loss of lives.
