Gor Mahia Youth head coach Maurice Onyango was all smiles after his team secured an emphatic 5 – 1 win over Ulinzi Stars U20 on Wednesday 21st December at Camp Toyoyo to sail through to the quarter finals of the KPL U20 tournament.
Gor Mahia had to come from a goal down to see off Ulinzi Stars and the response had the coach elated as he plans for the second stage of the tournament.
Having lost the first match, against Posta Rangers, the coach says he had a talk with the players to try and motivate them, thus the response that has seen the side win the subsequent two matches.
“We played really well; it was a great game and I am particularly pleased with the response we had after going down by a goal. It feels good to progress to the second round after the uncertainty that came with the opening loss.
“After that loss I had to speak to the players to try and motivate them and I am happy with the response they gave in these last two matches,” he said.
With the win, Gor Mahia finishes top of Group B and will take on the second placed team in Group A.
