OpenAI, yesterday announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Jony Ive, and his creative collective, LoveFrom. The partnership culminated in formation of a new company ‘io, designed to develop a new generation of AI- powered consumer devices, through the fusion of revolutionary AI and world- class designs.
Under the blog post, ‘Sam & Jony introduce io’ on OpenAI’s official website, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, described the venture as an intersection of technology, design, and understanding people.
“AI is an incredible technology, but great tools require work at the intersection of technology, design, and understanding people and the world. No one can do this like Jony and his team; the amount of care they put into every aspect of the process is extraordinary,” John Ive said.
This comes as a strategic move to blend cutting-edge AI with revolutionary design in physical products.
“I have a growing sense that everything I have learned over the last 30 years has led me to this moment. While I am both anxious and excited about the responsibility of the substantial work ahead, I am so grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an important collaboration. The values and vision of Sam and the teams at OpenAI and io are a rare inspiration,” John Ive remarked.
The official announcement terms the partnership as a ‘collaboration built upon friendship, curiosity and shared values.’
io will merge with OpenAI’s San Francisco-based research, engineering and product teams. Moreover, Jony Ive and LoveFrom will assume what the post describes as ‘ deep design and creative responsibilities’ across both companies.
This new venture represents a bold step towards unearthing the potential of AI in everyday life through a human- centric and innovative approach.
