Police officers in Kisii spent the better part of Monday morning engaging parents of a Secondary school which was recently set on fire.
Parents of Itierio Boys School took to the streets to protest against a decision by the Education Ministry to replace the Principal of the school a week after seven dormitories were burnt down.
The parents, chanting slogans of “Matiang’i must go”, lit fires on the streets and razed tires condemning the decision to send the headteacher on compulsory leave.
The irate groups wielding burning branches demanded that the principal be reinstated with immediate effect maintaining that he was innocent.
They claimed that the Education officials never consulted them when arriving at the decision given that they were major stakeholders in the institution.
Anti-riot officers were forced to intervene lobbing teargas to disperse the enraged parents as they cleared burning material from the streets.
On Monday, reports emerged that principals of schools where arson attacks have occurred in the past had been replaced by deputies from other schools.
