The Act contains among others an expanded recruitment panel that includes the electoral agency’s chairman and commissioners.

“The Assent to the IEBC Amendment Bill marks a significant step in the actualization of one of the recommendations of NADCO and the signing of this Bill paves the way for the establishment of a selection panel for the appointment of IEBC Commissioners,” said Ruto.

Ruto noted that the Bill passed by Parliament based on the recommendations of the NADCO report will allow the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission to enable it to carry out its key electoral functions including conducting elections and the boundaries review.

Among the parliamentary committee members who attended, some opposed like Martha Karua, Gitobu Imanyala, Jeremiah Kioni and Eugene Wamalwa.

Martha Karua said the fresh dialogue between the two parties is a trap and has dismissed President William Ruto’s call for dialogue to discuss pressing national issues, claiming it’s a move to dump Gen Z’s demand for change.

She further went ahead and warned Kenyans to be careful as reforms by Gen Z can be altered.

On the other hand, her counterpart Eugene Wamalwa, has said he is ready to reject the call for a dialogue.

This came hours after Ruto, backed by opposition leader Raila Odinga, announced a six-day multi-sectoral dialogue forum beginning Monday, July 15, to discuss issues pressing Kenyans.
