The city hoping clause will be read today for the third time in parliament as Members of Parliament the seek to put on hold chances of other MPs leaving the party immediately after missing a nomination chance
The clause was one of the recommendation in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) report that was prepared by The Joint-Select Parliamentary Committee recommending on ways of effecting changes in IEBC reforms.
The MPs looked disturbed by that clause forcing the speaker to give them time for deliberation, and despite calls by the coalition leaders to respect the report citing it was out of consultation that the report was developed, the MPs decided to abort the clause.
However, the Jubilee Members of Parliament led by majority Leader, Aden Duale, yesterday had breakfast with Deputy President at his Karen house and unanimously agreed to give the clause a full support saying Jubilee does not entertain party hopping.
Addressing the press, the leader of Majority in Senate, Aden Duale said they had agreed to support the two bills that focus on Electoral reforms.
“After fruitful deliberations, the Members unanimously agreed to support the two Bills before the Legislature relating to Electoral Reforms,” stated the statement in part.
“In the course of the deliberations, the Members buttressed the need to professionalize and institutionalize political parties so as to foster a vibrant democratic environment that supports ideology based politics.”
