Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Mr. Mudavadi, stated that this year’s theme for the Jamhuri Day celebrations strongly aligns with the nation’s goals of providing jobs for its citizens.
At the formal inauguration of the Jamhuri National Job Fair held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the Prime Cabinet Secretary highlighted the Government of Kenya’s comprehensive strategy for job creation, which encompasses local employment, online job opportunities, and overseas work.
He further commended the entertainment and performing arts industries for their contributions to job creation, emphasizing that the job fair acts as a portal to opportunities within the global labor market.
At the same event, Diaspora Affairs PS Roseline Njogu highlighted that unemployment is currently Kenya’s biggest challenge. She mentioned that the Government, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs and other agencies, is implementing a comprehensive strategy to address this issue.
The PS explained that “kazi majuu” is not just a one-way initiative but a platform for significant investment in the economy and the nation’s future through skills and technology transfer.
Recognizing the intricacies involved in maneuvering through the global labor market, the PS emphasized the department’s dedication to safeguarding, involving, empowering, and ultimately enhancing the well-being of both existing and prospective members of the Kenyan diaspora.
She encouraged Kenyans to pursue job opportunities exclusively through reputable recruitment agencies to mitigate the risks associated with human trafficking.
Mr. Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects & Creative Economy and chair of the Jamhuri National Job Fair Committee, stated that the event aims to combat misinformation surrounding labor mobility throughout this week-long initiative.
Present at the event were Amb. Isaiya Kabira, Secretary of Diaspora Investments and Entrepreneurship and co-chair of the committee, along with senior government officials and members of the steering committee for the Jamhuri National Job Fair.
The job fair runs from December 5th to 11th at the KICC in Nairobi ahead of the Jamhuri Day celebrations on 12th December 2024.
