The national government has allocated Sh. 11,820,000 million for the second phase of the construction of 15 Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in 10 public secondary schools in Kericho East Sub-County.
Speaking during the Sub-County Implementation and Coordination Committee meeting, the Kericho East Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Stephen Orinde was elated to mention that phase 1 of the project was a major success albeit few challenges they encountered which he said was a stepping stone for better performance in phase two, which he said will be better since they would apply lessons learnt in phase one.
Orinde urged all stakeholders to continue working together to deliver phase 2 of the CBC Infrastructure Program within the stipulated timeframe.
He noted that in phase one, 21 schools in the Sub-County received one classroom each with a majority of them already commissioned while the few remaining classes will be commissioned in due course.
“Kenegut Day Secondary, Ketitui Secondary School and Maso Secondary schools are the only ones lagging behind but progress is being made to ensure they are completed and commissioned,” Orinde noted.
At the same time, the Kericho East Sub-County Assistant Director of Education Mr. Isaac Omari Mokaya listed the 10 schools which will benefit in phase 2, five of which will get two classrooms each.
“Chepkoiyo Secondary School, Chepngobob Secondary School, Kericho Day High School, Kipchimchim Boys, and Manyoror Secondary School will each get two CBC classrooms,” said Omari.
He listed five other schools which include; Kapsoit Secondary School, Kericho High, Kericho Tea secondary, Kipsigis Girls, and Poiywek Secondary.
Omari also pointed out that school Principals from the ten schools will play a cardinal role in supervision of the construction of the classes that should be completed before the onset of the KCSE exams in November.
The multi million infrastructural development in schools is aimed at facilitating a 100 percent transition rate of learners in primary and junior secondary schools come the year 2023.
