Poison for love: Second year student takes poison after being jilted by his lover at Murang’a University

A third year university student died after he took poison in protest of being jilted by his lover who is in the same campus at Murang’a University of Technology.

The 21-years-old is said to have had differences with his girlfriend who had insisted on their separation but the boyfriend could not handle the separation hence went on to take poison.

According to Sammy Nyamita, a fellow student, he found the victim writhing in pain along the street near their hostels, and he was shouting that he was about to die.

Nyamita explained that the two had some love issues with the girl seeking to have some space until she sorted out some family issues that she has, only for the boyfriend to keep on insisting that their relationship could not have ended just like that.

Nyamita called upon other students and they took Derrick Kiprop to a nearby clinic where he was immediately referred to Murang’a level five hospital and got admission immediately.

At Murang’a Hospital, doctors attended to Derrick as confirmed by Dr. Joseph Ngando Mwangi.

Dr. Ngando says that the boy had taken quite a substantial amount of poison and he started galloping while in the wards and doctors embarked on a process to resuscitate him but it was futile.

Felix Kimotho, in charge of security at the Murang’a University of Technology confirmed that in deed the boy who was a third year student taking Software Engineering had taken poison in protest of his love to the girl, who is a second year student undertaking mathematics and economics.

Kimotho points out such issues are not new to different universities in Kenya but urges university students to avoid having misplaced priorities while in campuses.

He cautioned them against getting involved in love affairs while in college instead of concentrating in their studies.

The body of the student who hails from Rift Valley is now lying at Murang’a level 5 hospital mortuary.

His parents have been informed of the untimely death of their son who was only one year away from becoming a software engineer but love snatched his life, leaving behind the girlfriend from Nyanza who will continue with her studies and archive her dreams.
