Police in Nairobi’s Ruai Sub-County have arrested a suspect in a significant anti-narcotics operation that led to the recovery of over 5,600 rolls of bhang.

The operation, which took place on July 1, 2025, in Kamulu, was part of ongoing efforts by the National Police Service (NPS) to dismantle drug networks operating within residential areas.

According to an official police statement, officers acting on intelligence raided a location in Kamulu where they discovered 5,660 rolls of cannabis sativa, believed to have been intended for widespread distribution. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and is set to be arraigned in court.

The NPS emphasized that this operation reflects the government’s continued commitment to the fight against drug trafficking, especially in urban and sub-urban regions where such substances are increasingly infiltrating local communities.

Authorities noted that drug trafficking poses not only legal concerns but also a serious threat to public health and youth welfare.

“This successful operation is part of broader efforts to rid our communities of dangerous substances that harm our youth and compromise national security,” read part of the statement issued by the NPS.

The police also used the opportunity to caution the public against engaging in or tolerating any form of drug-related activity.

They stressed the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious individuals or movements that may be linked to drug trafficking.

In their statement, the NPS further acknowledged the role of vigilant community members and intelligence units whose input led to the breakthrough. They urged the public to remain alert and continue supporting the ongoing war on narcotics.

The Kamulu seizure is one of the largest drug busts in Nairobi in recent months and underscores a renewed push by law enforcement agencies to curb the proliferation of illicit drugs across the country.
