Celestine Muthengei, 19, a second year student pursuing Community Development in one of the higher learning institutions in Thika, was attacked by the suspected jilted boyfriend on Monday night at around 8pm while in her hostel room.
A police report seen by the star indicated that the deceased sustained deep stabs on her chest, back, head and limbs and succumbed to the injuries on arrival at Thika Level 5 Hospital where she had been rushed.
According to her room mates, who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity for fear of being attacked by the unknown assailant who is still at large, the man entered their hostel room as they were relaxing after having their supper.
One of the students said mathenge entered the room and calmly asked where Celestine [the deceased] was. He was so polite and no one could suspect that he had an ill motive.
She added Celestine was seated at the edge of one of the beds near the door charging her phone. She seemed not to recognize the man, as he had a cap and a mask; she stood and introduced herself as the one he was looking for. The man told her ‘ulidhani sitakupata. Una ni cheat’ [you thought I wouldn’t find you. You are cheating on me], drew a knife from his coat pocket and started stabbing her senselessly.
On noticing the turn of events, the four girls in the room started screaming calling for help but no one answered to their distress calls as the man had already locked the door from inside.
She said they feared that he would turn to them and harm them He was unmoved by their screams. When he noticed that Celestine was bleeding profusely he opened the door and vanished into the dark.
Another room mate said that they took Muthengei from where she was lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to Thika Level 5 Hospital where she succumbed as she was receiving emergency treatment. They later reported the matter to Thika police station.
The roommates described Muthengei as a humble, blissful and kind girl who was focused with her studies.
One of the students said that she was an amazing girl.they are saddened by the incident and losing such an innocent girl.
