Kamagambo police officers have successfully intercepted a drug trafficker and confiscated 401 rolls of bhang in a major crackdown on illicit drug trade.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest follows a timely tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

Acting on the intelligence, officers set up an ambush along the route of a suspicious public service vehicle, registration number KDM 981Z, en route to Kisumu from Migori.

The vehicle was flagged down and subjected to a thorough search, leading to the discovery of two bags packed with a total of 401 sizable rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms, estimated to have a street value of Ksh1,032,000.

“Officers set up an ambush and intercepted the vehicle. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed two bags containing a total of 401 sizable rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Sh1,032,000,” stated the DCI.

The driver, identified as Calvin Okoth Otieno, was found ferrying students in an apparent attempt to evade detection, perhaps assuming that his company would shield him from suspicion.

However, his deceptive strategy was foiled by the watchful eyes of concerned citizens and the swift action of law enforcement officers.

Okoth is currently in custody at Kamagambo Police Station, undergoing processing as he awaits his court appearance.
