Netizens have been left shocked after a police officer shot a prison warden dead in Kitale on Tuesday evening before attempting to commit suicide.
According to reports, the warden was waiting for prisoners who were arraigned in Kitale Law courts when he decided to have a drink at the bar. The two got into an altercation at the bar that resulted in the death of the warden.
Tensions were evident at the crime scene as residents and business proprietors operating within the area closed down shops scampering for safety. The police officer allegedly threatened to shoot anyone attempting to get close to him or within the vicinity after the incident.
An eyewitness at the incident told the standard that they were having lunch with the warden before the unfortunate incident.
“I know both of them. I was with the one who got killed before he died, we had lunch together. I can’t believe it.” he stated.
The body of the slain warden was collected by police officers who arrived at the scene to contain the incident. Kitale residents raised their concerns about police officers drinking during working hours while carrying firearms.
A statement is yet to be issued concerning the matter.
