Lilian Biwott, the police officer who fatally shot her husband 12 times on the night of October 9, 2023, at their rented house in Kimumu estate along the Eldoret-Iten highway, Uasin Gishu County, has been sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment.

Justice Nyakundi of the Eldoret Law Courts concurred with the prosecution’s argument that the accused acted in a premeditated manner.

“The fact that she fired 12 shots, six of which struck the deceased, demonstrated intent to kill,” said Justice Nyakundi.

He further ruled that claims of self-defense and provocation were not applicable in this case.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), at the time of the incident, Biwott, who served as an Administration Police officer in the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU), had been married to the victim for a decade, although their marriage was characterized by ongoing disputes.

“The prosecution, led by Mr. David Fedha and Mr. Mark Mugun, presented seven witnesses whose testimonies in court presented a clear picture that the accused indeed committed the offence,” stated the ODPP.
