Makindu law enforcement officers have cracked a motor vehicle theft case by arresting 38-year-old Musyoka Mutava, the main suspect in a highway ambush that left one motorist injured and his vehicle stolen.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the victim was driving a silver Subaru Trezia from Mombasa to Malaba when he picked up two hitchhikers in Mariakani. However, as they approached Kiunduani Market, one passenger indicated he wanted to get out.
When the driver slowed down, chaos ensued; two assailants emerged from a nearby thicket, struck the driver with a blunt object, and fled with the car and the victim’s bag.
The injured driver was treated at Makindu Sub County Hospital and was later discharged in stable condition.
“Through forensic leads and tactical pursuit, officers trailed the stolen vehicle to Ukia in Makueni Sub-County, recovering it and apprehending Mutava,” stated the DCI.
However, his accomplices managed to flee the scene but left behind crucial leads.
During the operation, police seized a getaway motorcycle, two sets of number plates—KDH 486F (which had been reported stolen from a parked vehicle) and KDN 192W—along with a pair of screwdrivers.
Mutava is currently in custody pending arraignment, as detectives continue to expand their search to capture the remaining members of the crew involved in this highway robbery.
