Police officers from Utalii Police Station have arrested a suspect in Mathare and recovered a cache of suspected stolen electronics following an intelligence-led operation carried out on July 10, 2025.

The suspect, who operates an electronic repair workshop in the area, was found in possession of a large collection of items believed to have been stolen.

“During the operation, the officers arrested the suspect and recovered several suspected stolen electronic items, including 72 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 1 Universal Flashing Interface (UFI), a Pandora device, a camera, 2 external hard drives, and a CPU,” stated the NPS.

In a major breakthrough, thirty-two of the seized mobile phones have already been positively identified by complainants from M-KOPA Company, linking the suspect to a string of thefts. The remaining electronics have been secured by the police and are being held as exhibits pending further identification by their rightful owners.

The National Police Service credited the success of the operation to cooperation with the public, who provided crucial intelligence.

Additionally the authorities urged any individuals who may have lost similar items to visit Utalii Police Station for identification, as efforts to dismantle criminal networks targeting electronic devices continue across Nairobi.

The suspect is currently in custody and is set to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
