Detectives in Moyale Sub County apprehended 22 Bales of bhang estimated at Kshs 435,000.

Receiving a tip-off from members of the public, the detectives under the leadership of SCCIO Moyale responded to a report of a suspicious person with four sacks of beans at the Liban bus booking office.

The said sacks were left unattended at the entrance of the booking office with the owner missing. Upon inquiry, the detectives were informed that the owner had gone to retrieve authorization papers at KRA offices.

To ascertain what was inside the sacks, law enforcement officers enlisted the help of a police sniffer dog, which detected something suspicious within them.

The four sacks were escorted to DCI Moyale offices where they were opened, revealing twenty-two bales of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of Kshs 435,000.

The police are currently in pursuit of the suspect who is still at large. The bhang was kept in custody as an exhibit.
The seizure comes barely a week after detectives from the Transnational Organized Crimes and Anti-Narcotics Unit recovered 12 sacks of Cannabis sativa and six sets of car number plates from the house of a notorious trafficker.
The suspect had earlier been intercepted along the Kisii-Rongo highway with 50 sacks of bhang.
Joseph Nisa Ouma had been temporarily released from Muthaiga police cells for a search in his Utawala AP Stage house, where the recoveries were made including a digital weighing scale.
Besides concealing the identities of his accomplices who are believed to have holed up upon his arrest, the suspect also refused to sign the inventory of the recoveries seized from his house.
Investigative interviewing is however ongoing to establish the recipients of his supplies.
