Police Seize Massive Drug Consignments In Meru, Nyamira

Police officers from Muthara police station in Meru’s Tigania East Sub-county botched a drug trafficking operation after intercepting a motorcycle rider with a 30kg stash of Cannabis sativa.

The motorcycle rider ignored orders to stop and revved on. A police officer shot in the air which led to him losing his balance and scampering on foot.

“The motorcycle reg. no. KMFT 893P make Dayun was impounded, alongside two gunny bags containing 6 bales of the illegal herb.” Read the DCI report.

This incident occurred at 1:00 am on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in Nyamira’s Borabu sub-county, Samuel Omondi Audi and Judith Kerubo were arrested after police officers based at Matutu police station along the Keroka – Sotik highway mounted a roadblock which led to the seizing of five sacks of bhang.

“In the operation spearheaded by the area Sub-County Police Commander, a Nissan Tiida Reg.No. KBY 435M driven by Samuel Omondi Audi, 29 in the company of Judith Kerubo (also 29) was flagged down, and upon search the cargo estimated at a street value of Sh5 million was discovered.” DCI wrote.

The suspects were arrested immediately and their prosecution processes have since begun.

The government has intensified its war on drugs as incidences of drug traffickers getting arrested increase.

These operations underscore the nationwide campaign against abuse of and trafficking in illicit drugs and narcotics, championed by H.E. the Deputy President and the Interior Cabinet Secretary given the scores that have so far lost their lives to the drug menace as well as the recent arrests.

Meanwhile, the DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information on drug traffickers and to disengage from any drug-related activities or trade to avoid confrontations with the law.
