A shooting incident took place during a court session at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi on 13th June involving a Magistrate and a police officer.
Inspector General Japhet Koome has issued a statement regarding the incident.
“The National Police Service wishes to appraise the public about the unfortunate and highly regrettable shooting incident that happened today June 13, 2024, at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi,” read the IG’s statement in part.
The judiciary has revealed the magistrate’s name as Hon. Monicah Kivuti.
The suspect who was later identified as Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto and the OCS Londiani Police Station of identification number 235435 was fatally shot by Police Court Orderlies in response to the distress call.
According to the IG, preliminary investigations indicate that the OCS was in the Court for unknown reasons during a court session of a case involving his wife, Jennifer Wairimu, who is accused of obtaining Ksh. 2.9 million by false pretence.

Two Police Constables were also injured and are currently receiving treatment.
The IG further added that the Police Service is yet to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting and all the police specialized teams led by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Unit are on the ground conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident.
“While the Service is yet to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting, all our specialized teams led by the DCI Homicide Unit are on the ground conducting in-depth investigation into the incident,” the Inspector General revealed.
Koome further reassured the Judiciary of the safety of all their Staff as they discharge their noble duty.
“The National Police Service further reiterates its commitment to protect life and property of all Kenyans and the many foreign visitors alike,” reiterated IG Koome.
