President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a stern warning to nurses to resume work immediately. The president, in an address from State House Nairobi, after a meeting with the governors emphasized that all nurses should resume work by Friday this week or face the sack.
Following the ongoing nurses strike that has seen the health sector at risk, President Uhuru Kenyatta called off the stand off in the health sector, pitting nurses and county government.
The president spoke from State House where he reminded the country that Kenya has a clear development agenda and an investment destination, and that he cannot allow an unlawful industrial action to derail his administration from taking the country forward, thus directing all nurses to resume duty failure to which they risk sacking.
He has however assured that he will improve nurses welfare in order to provide adequate and accessible health care across the country.
The directive by the president is likely to change the course of things.
Last week, the court suspended the nurses’ strike for 60 days. this was after the council of governors sought an injunction to enable both parties to negotiate. cog in court had challenged the legitimacy of the strike by the Kenya national union of nurses.
But some nurses have refused to honour the directive from the courts saying they have to be heard by their employer.
