President Kenyatta sends home directors unceremoniously

His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday unceremoniously sent home all directors of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) apart from the State House Spokesman, Manoah Esipisu.

In a memo signed by the deputy Head of Public Service Nzioka Waita, President Kenyatta sent packing four directors who were in charge of various departments in the unit.

“As for now, everybody sit tight at home. You will be recalled,” a statement issued to PSCU director by Nzioka Waita read.

The fired PSCU directors include Head of Public Communications Munyori Buku, Chief of Messaging at the Presidency Eric Ng’eno, Branding and Events Head James Kinyua, and Digital and Diaspora Communications Manager Dennis Itumbi.

Sources privy to the suspension revealed that the President was concerned about the leaking of uncertified information to the public as well as unstructured communication by the team.

Other reports indicate that the Head of State was bothered by how the team had been responding to issues concerning the government without following media procedures.

According to Mr Waita, the PSCU team will be restructured in the shortest time possible with an emphasis on more organized communication.
