President William Ruto has issued an apology to Tanzania, Uganda and other neighbouring countries.
“Our neighbours from Tanzania, if we have wronged you in any way, forgive us. Our friends from Uganda, if there is anything that Kenyans have done that is not right, we want to apologize,” he apologized.
Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park, themed ‘Rise and Rebuild,’ aimed to unite Kenya’s leaders across political, religious and ethnic lines through prayer, seeking reconciliation and fostering national unity, he urged citizens to do more of building bridges that will make Kenya a greater nation.
He also apologized to Kenyan children and neighboring countries, expressing his desire to create strong relationships that will benefit Kenya.
“To our children, if there is any misstep, we apologize. Our neighbours, if there is any misstep, we apologize. We want to build a relationship that will make our country great and will take us forward,” said President Ruto.
Tensions have been rising between Kenyans and Tanzanians following the deportation of Kenyan activists who traveled to Tanzania to observe the treason trial of opposition leader Tundu Lissu.
Tanzania’s President warned foreign activists against interfering with Tanzania’s internal affairs.
“We have begun to see activists from our region trying to intrude into our issues. Let us not give them the opportunity. They have already caused problems in their own countries,” she cautioned.
Kenya’s Head of State additionally praised the broad-based government, stating that it has made it possible for Kenya to build bridges between its political parties.
“We now have a broad-based government that brings us more people into one ecosystem that we can plan and work together for the greater good of our nation,” said President Ruto.
