President Ruto Appoints 9-member IEBC Selection Panel

President William Ruto has appointed the selection panel for the recruitment of nominees for the positions of Chairperson and members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The 9-member selection panel appointment was made through a gazette notice dated 27th January.

In the gazette notice, the Head of State appointed Kiome Lindah Gakii, Professor Oloo Adams, James Evans Misati, Nicodemus Kipchirchir Bore, Ambassador Koki Muli Grignon, Carolene Kituku Tanui, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda and Fatuma Saman to the panel.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Under Sub-paragraph (2) (a) Kiome Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams (Prof.). Under Sub-paragraph (2) (b)- James Evans Misati, Nicodemus Kipchirchir Bore, Koki Muli Grignon (Amb.), Under Sub-paragraph (2) (c) Carolene Kituku, Under Sub-paragraph (2) (d)- Tanui Andrew Kipkoech, Under Sub-paragraph (2) (e)- Nelson Makanda (Dr.), Fatuma Saman, to be Members of the Selection Panel for the Recruitment of nominees for appointment as the Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” read the gazette notice in part.

The newly appointed members of the selection panel are to be sworn in on Monday at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

Chief Justice Martha Koome will preside over the swearing-in ceremony.

Furthermore, the President revoked the selection panel that had been appointed in 2023.

“The appointments of the Members of the Selection Panel vide Gazette Notice No. 2641 of 2023 is revoked,” added the Head of State.

The appointment follows last Friday’s High Court decision, which lifted the earlier court orders that had barred their appointment.
