President Ruto Hosts Leaders From The Coast Region In State House, Nairobi

President Ruto is keen on uplifting the economy of the Coastal Region through various interventions in agriculture, the blue economy and the maritime sector.

“We are also making progress in sorting out the historical land issues in the region, eradicating the squatter problem and issuing title deeds to residents,” said President Ruto.

At State House, Nairobi, President Ruto hosted leaders from Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and Taita Taveta Counties.

President Ruto has launched numerous affordable housing projects across coastal counties like Lamu, Kilifi, and Taita Taveta.

These projects aim to address housing shortages, create jobs, and stimulate local economies.

The initiatives prioritize local labour and suppliers, integrating ‘Jua Kali’ artisans and vocational training institutions.

Significant investments are being made in road infrastructure, such as the Kwa Jomvu-Mariakani Road, to improve connectivity and facilitate trade.

Enhancing the efficiency of the Port of Mombasa is a key focus, with infrastructure projects aimed at streamlining logistics and reducing transport costs. There is a focus on improving road infrastructure, which is a key part of improving trade in the coastal region.

President Ruto is emphasizing the development of the blue economy, with investments in fishing infrastructure and support for fishing communities. This includes the construction of fish landing sites and the provision of grants to fishing groups.

The president has issued large grants to address historical land issues, including the resettlement of squatters, is a priority. The government is committed to acquiring land from absentee landlords to resettle affected families. Issuing title deeds to people who have been squatting on land is a key part of his plan.
