President William Ruto met with Moussa Faki, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, on Tuesday 24th December 2024 to discuss the implementation of reforms within the African Union.
Taking to social media, President Ruto said that they are focused on implementing reforms at the African Union’s structure to make it more effective and efficient in pursuing the continent’s interests.
“In Kilgoris, Narok County, met the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki and discussed, among other things, AU reforms and the upcoming election of the AUC Chairperson,” President Ruto said on X.
The former Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga has shown interest to succeed Mr. Moussa Faki as the African Union Commission Chairperson.
The upcoming elections for the African Union Commission (AUC) are set to take place in February 2025, coinciding with the African Union Summit. All eight senior leadership roles within the AUC, which encompass the positions of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson, will be up for election.
Raila Odinga’s competitors for the position are Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato.
President William Ruto and the Kenyan government endorsed Raila’s candidature to succeed Moussa Faki as the new AUC Chairperson.
He further mobilized support for Odinga’s candidacy for the position and encouraged both Kenyans and international partners to endorse the application.
