All primary schools to receive digital tablets by next year

All primary schools in Kenya will have received the digital tablets for Class One pupils by the end of next year as it was pledged in the Jubilee government manifesto, this is according to the Water Principal Secretary Prof Fred Segor.

Segor said the infrastructure needed to support the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) has been put in place in most of the primary schools, and what is remaining is just to complete the distribution of the gadgets.

“The Government is determined to ensure that digital learning is embraced by young learners as a way of making them to adopt changes in technology,” said Prof Segor.

Speaking as the chief guest during the launch of the programme in Gatunyu Primary School in Murang’a County, Segor said members of the Cabinet have been deployed to various counties to launch the programme and show to the people the government’s commitment in the project.

“The pre-loaded content in the digital tablets is tailored to embrace interactive learning among school children,” noted Prof Segor, who was accompanied by ICT Authority Senior Manager Mary Kerema.

“Thirty per cent of Murang’a primary schools will get the digital tablets under the Digital Literacy Programme by the end of the year. So far, College Primary, Gatundu, Kaganju and Murang’a Technology Primary Schools have received the tablets.”
