Principal Nabbed For Soliciting Bribe From Supplier

By Lauryne Akoth

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) yesterday arrested Erustus Ruiru Ng’ang’a, the Principal of Keekonyokie Mixed Day Secondary School in Narok County after he solicited a bribe of Kshs 50,000 from a school supplier.

The principal had demanded the bribe to release the supplier’s Kshs 410,000 cheque, in payment for goods supplied to the school. The supplier promptly reported the bribery attempt to the EACC, prompting swift action.

In a calculated trap, Nga’ng’a was caught red-handed receiving a kshs 40,000  as part of the demanded bribe, and was taken into custody at Ntulele Police Station in Narok. Further legal proceedings were scheduled for Thursday 14th March.

According to EACC, instances of financial misconduct in schools, where Principals misuse entrusted funds, are unfortunately not uncommon.

They affirmed that sometimes, these cases involve collusion with corrupt suppliers who siphon funds without fulfilling their obligations. They urged the public to report such misconduct to the Commission via the Toll-Free No. 1551 to ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
