Push to closure of donkey abattoirs to help save donkey population

Donkey farmers in Baringo County have continued to push for the closure of donkey abattoirs to help save donkey population. The farmers who decried the high cases of donkey theft and declining of population of the animal are now calling upon government to completely close the slaughter houses so that they may have peace. Cynthia Kipsang, a donkey farmer in Esageri said the many people in the area depend on the animal for transportation which help them to fend for their families. Another farmer, Viola Rotich said it was high time for closure of the slaughter houses saying it was against the Kalenjin norms and traditions to slaughter a donkey.
