Puzzle On A Dead Man’s Empty Graveyard

A cemetery in Mosora village, Masige West ward, Nyamache sub-county, intended for the interment of an elderly family member, is still unmarked because the body of the deceased was buried somewhere else.

After a protracted land dispute, the body of Mzee   Michoki had to be transported to another piece of land in the area called Orogare. This followed a protracted land dispute.

James and Rose Moraa, two family members, stated their father received a title deed once he had settled and purchased the land from Omare Maburi several years ago.

Rose Michoki, the wife of the deceased said that it was in 2020 that the grandchildren of Mzee Omari had lust for land and each of them wanted an equal share of the land. She asked herself why were they doing this yet they were his grandchildren.

James Michoki said when Mzee Michoki was alive, there was no grudge between him and anyone.  He added that elders of the community came into the union when they heard of the anonymous dispute that arose from Mzee Michoki’s grandchildren digging the land halfway and claiming to own a split part.

‘’Things had got out of hand and the only way we could settle this problem was either by including the government or by presenting the case to court,’’ said James Michoki.

Following Maburia’s demise, Ogembo  Nyatangi, his son, ignited a border dispute that resulted in the division of the territory into two halves.

Michoki’s family was only allowed to cultivate half of the land while the local government and elders intervened to restore it.
