Opposition leader Raila Odinga has issued a renewed call for sweeping governance reforms, stressing the urgent need to strengthen national institutions and uphold democratic values in Kenya.
In a statement shared on social media, Odinga emphasized transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity as the bedrock of a stable and prosperous nation.
“Good governance is not just a policy preference—it is a national necessity,” Odinga stated, calling for the responsible management of public resources and enhanced oversight mechanisms.
He warned that in the current digital era, young citizens have growing tools and awareness to trace public spending, making it imperative for leaders to act with integrity and openness.
Central to his message was a firm stance against corruption and public sector wastage. Odinga urged that punitive action alone is insufficient and called for visible, measurable efforts to prevent graft and mismanagement.
“We must move beyond slogans and establish a credible system that tracks and communicates progress to the public,” he asserted.
The veteran statesman also defended the independence of the media and civil society, highlighting their role in safeguarding democratic values and acting as checks on state power.
Additionally, he underscored the importance of a dynamic private sector, supported by a reliable legal framework and clear economic policies.
Odinga’s statement comes amid growing public discontent over economic challenges, alleged mismanagement of public funds, and concerns about institutional transparency.
His remarks are likely to resonate widely, especially among youth and civil society groups increasingly vocal about governance and accountability.
As the country prepares for critical national conversations on reforms and economic recovery, Odinga’s message adds pressure on the government to demonstrate tangible progress and political will in tackling systemic inefficiencies and restoring public trust.
