The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has been in ups and downs as the principals continued deliberating in search of the right candidate to fly the CORD flag during 2017 general elections, with each principals terming himself as the best suited to compete with UhuRuto coalition.
The former Prime minister and Orange Democratic Leader (ODM) Raila Odinga has however relieved some pressure after he hinted to support anyone who would be given the ticket.
In a statement signed by his spokesman Dennis Onyango, the CORD leader rubbished reports in a local daily claiming he would not drop his presidential ambitions for anyone.
Onyango said that there will be a clearly laid down procedure to pick a presidential candidate for the coalition.
“While Mr. Odinga intends to vie for the ticket in the Coalition’s primaries, he stands ready to support whoever will emerge the winner in that primary contest,” read the statement in part.
“He, therefore, asks CORD supporters to ignore reports in The Sunday Nation that he has to be the CORD candidate.”
The statement also rubbished the romours that Raila was shopping for a ‘strong’ candidate outside the coalition.
“Mr. Odinga does not intend to go outside CORD to shop for a candidate and will not support a candidate from outside the coalition,” stated Onyango.
