Rashford U21 performance could earn him senior re-consideration

The Manchester United 18-year old player marked his debut in England Under 21s (U21s) with a thud when he management to walk away with three things; Man of the match, Hat-trick ball and another debut record in a match that his team won 6-1 over Norway.

Marcus Rashford scored a hat-trick on his England Under-21 debut as they thrashed Norway in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

The 18-year-old struck from 18 yards before adding a deflected second and scoring a penalty for his third.

Marcus Rashford began his United senior career when former Manchester united Coach, Luis Van Gaal started during Europa League competition and scored a brace on Debut. Due to lack of striking options, the lad was given a debut on Premier League against Arsenal and he grabbed another brace.

The young player has seen himself score on debut for four different managers – Louis van Gaal, Roy Hodgson, Jose Mourino and Southgate – and also score on four different debuts- Europa League Debut, PremierL Debut, England Seniors debut, and England U21s Debut.

The comfortable win means Gareth Southgate’s men are now two points clear of Switzerland at the top of their group, with two games left to play and a game in hand on their nearest opponents.

Norway, who had briefly made it 4-1 through Ghayas Zahid’s header, remain third. The top team in each group is assured of reaching next year’s tournament in Poland, with the team finishing second going into a play-off.

England Under-21s boss Gareth Southgate praised his side after an impressive victory over Norway took them one win closer to next summer’s Euro Finals.

“I think, because of the quality of the opposition, it’s a super outcome,” he said.

“They caused us a lot of problems for 50 minutes but we were a real threat on the counter-attack and ruthless in front of goal and it’s a game for us to look back on and learn a lot from.

“We had to withstand a lot of pressure and I thought they got into a lot of dangerous areas, and we owe our goalkeeper for a couple of saves early on.

“If I was their coach and we’d come off with a 6-1 then I’d be thinking I’m not quite sure how that’s happened, but it’s a reward for a very good week’s work from our boys.

“It looks like a great result, but I think there’s a lot we can improve upon.”

Rashford told BT Sport after the game: “It was a good debut to have and I thought Norway did well despite the scoreline.

“It was the first penalty I’ve scored since I turned professional so that was my favorite goal.”

The cameo performance by Mucus could see Sam Allydayce change his decision and call the united forward back to the senior team.

The 18-year-old Manchester United striker had been omitted from England’s senior squad by Sam Allardyce claiming that he had no time to play at Carrington.

However, Mourinho backed the decision saying that he was also wishing that Rashford should be named to play for under 21s but when united coach gave Rashford a debut he showed him the quality he had.
