REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROGRAMME GAINS TRACTION

A mother and baby reproductive  health programme,an initiative by a private hospital  has earned popularity owing to its impact  in the Gusii region.

The programme under implementation for the third consecutive year  and  sponsored by Agha Khan hospital,enlisted  mothers  for public awareness sessions geared towards training  them on how to cope with pregnancies, baby delivery and health  challenges involved.

In  one of the sessions at Kisii branch of the hospital, obstrecian cum gynecologist  Dr.Kelvi Mutwiri,explained  the medics  interacted with the mothers and sensitized them on what to expect during pregnancy and child birth including complications that require surgical operations.

The move was to impart  knowledge on the need for mothers to attend prenatal clinics for safe deliveries. Over 200  expectant mothers   were  handled per month  with a view to detecting  and  dressing  early any complications.

Florence Musyimi,Agha khan hospital Kisii branch manager observed training the mothers on what the should expect in their new borne babies among other childbirth experiences instills confidence in them.

She cited elevated blood pressure levels and diabetes as some of the  health complications associated with pregnancies which the mothers should be  made aware off.

A  mother and participant Mercy Kerubo,commended the programme and the medics for their facilitation.

She observed some mothers might not  be conversant with handling newborns including breastfeeding them,hence the education to enlighten them.
