Residents of Kiong’ongi in Kitutu Chache South have protested over paralyzing of essential services and exposure to insecurity after disconnection of electricity to the area.
The residents who included teachers complained, for the last two weeks the area had been plunged in darkness, incidents of thuggery and halting of learners’ exam preparations reported.
Addressing the media,the protestors accused the Kenya Power (KP) company for dragging its feet in restoring the supply which they attributed to replacement of a wanting transformer.
A teacher at Kiong’ongi primary school,Hezron Mageto lamented over disruption of preparations for this year’s KCPE exam due to lack of electricity.
He petitioned the electricity service provider to reconnect the power to save learners from more anguish.
Joshua Maguto a parent claimed the safety and security of the girl-child were not assured when they reported to school at dawn owing to the darkness.
A school security guard was attacked while on duty before he was rescued by the residents,he claimed as efforts to reach out at the KP company flopped, he added.
Paul Masangwa decried damage to electrical appliances as a result of short-circuiting and petitioned the power supplier to come out clear on what the consumers should to do to enjoy the service again.
According to Priscah Asiago,a local posho-mill could not operate among other services for lack of the electricity claiming even intervention from the area MP was yet to yield fruit.
