The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports is committed to nurturing talent and creating sustainable opportunities for young Kenyans through the development of world-class sports infrastructure.
As part of this commitment, the Cabinet Secretary recently conducted an inspection of Kirigiti Stadium to assess its progress and ensure the timely completion of the project.
The inspection, joined by Area MP Machua Waithaka and Kiambu County Sports CEC Ali Korar, revealed significant progress in the construction of the stadium.
The CS expressed satisfaction with the work done so far and emphasized the ministry’s focus on finalizing key areas, including the installation of seating, technology infrastructure, and the completion of the playing field.
“I conducted an inspection of Kirigiti Stadium to assess its progress. I’m impressed by the work done, and we are now focused on finalising key areas, including installing seating, setting up technology infrastructure, and completing the playing field,” stated the CS.
The Ministry is keen to transform Kirigiti Stadium into a self-sustaining facility capable of generating revenue.
“Our goal is also to make our stadiums self-sustaining by generating revenue, and I’m happy to note that Kirigiti has spaces that can be monetised. I invite the private sector to join us in investing in our sporting facilities across the country,” stated Murkomen.
The stadium’s design includes spaces that can be monetized, providing opportunities for the private sector to invest in and support the growth of Kenya’s sporting infrastructure.
In the coming days, the CS will meet with Sports Kenya to discuss the project’s completion date, review financing, and make necessary approvals to bring an end to the four-year-long wait for the stadium’s completion.
This effort is part of a broader initiative to ensure that sports facilities across the country are completed on schedule and made accessible to the public.
The Ministry’s vision extends beyond Kirigiti Stadium. By delivering quality sports facilities nationwide, it aims to provide young Kenyans with the platforms they need to develop their talents, monetize their skills, and build sustainable livelihoods.
The CS extended an invitation to the private sector to partner with the government in investing in Kenya’s sports infrastructure, promising that such collaborations would yield substantial returns for both investors and the community.
“I invite the private sector to join us in investing in our sporting facilities across the country,” he added.
With the stadium’s completion now in sight, the Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering facilities that empower the youth and honor Kenya’s rich sporting and cultural heritage.
