Rift Valley regional commissioner Maalim Mohammed has called for the conservation of Mau forest, terming it as one of the water towers in the country and the main source of water in the south rift region.
Mohammed said the government is very keen on its conservation, calling on stakeholders to ensure that natural resources are conserved for even future generations.
The regional commissioner was speaking in Kericho when he inspected the construction of Sh. 1.1 billion Kimugu water project, which its’ source is Mau Forest.
He said the completion of the project is two years late but its’ now almost complete, set to be commissioned by 31st July.
The project which is a government flagship project and one of Uhuru’s legacy projects, is set to benefit 20, 000 households in Kapsoit, Borborwet, Ainamoi, Kipchimchim and its environs.
It will produce between 130-140 litres per second, translating to 13,000 cubic metres of water per day.
