Ruiru MP Simon King’ara appeals to parents across the country not to hide their physically and mentally handicapped children.

The lawmaker said that the government as well as Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are up to the task and are ready to help the disabled with mobility devices as well as counseling.

King’ara said that parents must overcome the stigma of having disabled kids for their sake noting that there are thousands of handicapped children who are suffering silently in their homes.the Mp appealed to parents not to lock up their handicapped children because it’s a disservice to them. He said there is help out with so many NGOs and support groups ready to assist both the parents and the children,

King’ara spoke in Ruiru o while donating some 50 trio-cycles and 600 PWDs cards to physically handicapped children and adults drawn from Gitothua, Biashara, Gatong’ora and Kahawa Wendani wards through his Ng’ang’a King’ara Foundation in partnership with The Master Empowerment Center.

Among those who benefited with the wheelchairs are children with severe cerebral palsy conditions.

He added that some people hide their kids because of their physical deformities and forget that they have good brains and they too have wishes and plans for their lives that can be actualized by well wishers who are willing to offer help,
King’ara however noted that most parents in the country have started embracing the support, psychological, financial as well as equipment donations which are being extended to them by support groups and the government and that they are no longer hiding their children.

At the same time the lawmaker called on the Government and County governments to give special preference to people living with disabilities (PWDs) in order to ease the hardships they are facing during the Covid-19 period.

King’ara said that there’s dire need to empower the disabled economically through making deliberate efforts to boost their income.

He also said  the disabled are facing tough economic hardships during this pandemic and the state should device ways of helping them sail through this storm. They need mobility devices, food and a decent income,
He noted that his Ng’ang’a King’ara foundation will assist most of the physically challenged residents establish their own income generating ventures to enable them make a decent living.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the MP and called on the state, the county government and other well wishers to act on their predicaments.

Samson Ndungu said that they need support from both levels of government so that we can manage to sustain their families. He said was thankful to the kind gesture by the well wishers for assisting them with mobility devices,
They also pleaded with the National and county governments to address their plight and cushion them from the harsh effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Charles Maina added they would love if the government enrolls everyone who’s either physically or mentally challenged to the cash transfer programme so that no one is left out and ensure that everyone benefits. the pandemic has taken toll on PWDs and its only the government and well-wishers can come to our aid.
