President Ruto has announced that all schools will reopen next week.

“All schools will be opened on Monday next week and therefore parents must prepare their children to go to school,” announced the president.

The head of state made the remarks at State House Nairobi during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kajiado Central and Laikipia North constituencies.

The decision to reopen schools was reached after consultations with the Meteorological Department, which forecasted a decrease in rainfall in the upcoming days.

The announcement on reopening comes barely a week after he announced the suspension of school reopening until further notice.

Schools were set to reopen on April 29, 2024, but the Ministry of Education postponed following massive flooding across the country.

“All parents are now advised, based on the assessment of weather experts and the government that it is safe for our children to go back to school,” the president said.

Additionally, the government will allocate funds to the National Government Constituency Development Fund for the repair of schools affected by the floods.

The President also noted that the government will release funds to the National Government Constituency Development Fund for the rehabilitation of schools that have been damaged by the floods.

“We have made adequate arrangements, we have asked Members of Parliament and we have provided resources through NG-CDF for the repair of classrooms and other learning facilities across Kenya,” the head of state noted.
