A section of families at Wataalam village of Ruiru in Kiambu County have been forced to flee their homes by the exceptionally heavy rains that have been falling in the area.
For the last one week, the heavy rain has left a trail of destruction among them home appliances and crops which have been swept away leaving a section of homes uninhabitable.
Children from the affected homes have not resumed studies as their school uniforms, books and other documents were destroyed in the process.

Wangari said that the worst happened on Tuesday night after a four-hour heavy rain dropped in the area bringing all activities to a standstill.
Already, a section of the houses at the urban informal settlement are mushroomed by the intense dirty liquids occasioning serious movement challenges, insecurity, poor health and economic instability of the area.
Locals blamed lack of key drainage and sewerage systems in the area for the mess they said will cause more troubles if prompt interventions are not put in place.
Catherine Wanjiku, another resident will now be required to look for new academic documents after all her testimonials were washed by the rain torrents at a time, she had not arrived home.
Expressing her fears of missing job opportunities, Wanjiku accused local leaders of neglecting the area by denying them key infrastructural developments such as good roads, proper drainage and sewerage systems.
