The security committee in Embu County has decried an increase in Covid 19 cases as a result of cold weather and cooking at family gatherings. Speaking after a meeting, the Embu County commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo said 46 people were arraigned in the past week. He took issue with bodaboda operators for playing a cat and mouse game with the law enforcers during the curfew hours. Galgalo ordered the county police commander and health officials to ensure the bodaboda operators were tamed to flatten the curve.
He also warned the Church and politicians to follow all protocols before they are nabbed by the authorities. He denied claims by a cross section of politicians that the mortuaries are full due to Covid 19 related deaths. Last week John Muchiri the Manyatta MP had indicated that residents of Embu were looking for morgue services from the neighbouring counties. Rosaline Kaugi the director of public health in Embu County, also said that the statistics in Covid 19 cases had increased due to the cold weather.
She noted that Embu county had received 18,400 doses of Moderna and 7,600 doses of astrazeneca Vaccines, adding that the uptake was on average. She encouraged churches and other institutions to organize small groups at their premises and get outreach services where the county government will send health workers to carry out vaccinations. She also appealed to the people in over 50 years category and those with underlying conditions to also present themselves for vaccination.
