Sen.Kang’ata secures MP Nyoro’s release after deal with state

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is now a free man. Nyoro was arrested on Monday night over an incident on Sunday when he disrupted a church event, in his backyard. The event was being  presided over by his political rival Maina Kamanda.

Mr. Nyoro was to be charged today at the Muranga law courts with assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and causing disturbance in church, but the charges have been dropped unconditionally. Chaos had erupted in Murang’a town following his arrest with locals accusing police of ‘harassing our MP.’

Speaking, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, who is also Nyoro’s lawyer said his client has been freed and will not be charged in court.

Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua, had insisted that “Legal action will be taken against the MP and other culprits involved in the incident.”

Prior to his arrest, a defiant Nyoro had accused police of intimidating him. He insisted he was justified in defending his position at his backyard.

“I am not a coward, I will not allow anyone to intimidate me,” he said.
