SEYI SHAY LINKS UP WITH YEMI ALADE ON NEW BANGER “PEMPE”

Nigerian artist Seyi Shay enlists fellow Afrobeats songstress, Yemi Alade on her new bob dubbed “Pempe”. This is Seyi Shay’s first release of 2021 in preparation for her upcoming mixtape slated for summer 2021. The record produced by Kel-P (popular for crafting much of Burna Boy’s Grammy-winning ‘African Giant’ album) comes with a Clarence Peters directed video that offers an astute visual portrayal of the theme.

Pempe is translated from Nigerian street slang as ‘hot lady’, and befittingly the two collaborators cause a heat wave on the record with Seyi Shay leading with a catchy hook and infectious verse. Yemi Alade’s verse expands on the theme of the song, highlighting the struggles that come with being a hot lady from unending attention to everything else in between.

“Pempe” addresses social media trolls, the inconsistencies with what men want from women, over sexualization and misrepresentation of women in the music industry and beyond.
