After 3 weeks closure, Shalom Hospital in Machakos re-opens after two serious breaches.
The last incident involved the death of a seven-month-old baby boy wrongly injected at the facility. The hospital was initially on the spotlight after a woman was captured on a viral video delivering, as health workers watched from a distance.
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) CEO, Daniel Yumbya led a team of senior medical staff from Central and Machakos County to inspect the hospital.
Some of the hospital’s top officials are still facing negligence charges following the two incidents. They include the hospital’s director, administrator, clinical officer and a pharmacist.
The hospital staff have been provided with job descriptions and work stations based on certification, qualifications and competence.
Investigations that led to shut down of the hospital revealed that it had a myriad of process failures and lacked proper staffing. They also revealed that the wrong dosage was administered to the 7-month-old by a hospital attendant instead of a health worker.
