The Siaya County Assembly may soon vet the nominees for the County Executive Committee Members once the prerequisite documentations pertaining to the selected candidates were provided.
In a statement through the clerk to the Assembly Eric Ogenga, the vetting committee refuted reports appearing in a section of the local dailies earlier this week to the effect the Assembly Speaker George Okode had allegedly rejected the list of nominees.
He clarified that some of the nominees Governor James Orengo had submitted were yet to present supporting documents such as testimonials and academic certificates as stipulated by law.
Ogenga pointed out that the speaker only sought for the missing documents to be provided so that the assembly’s appointing committee can carry out due diligence and proceed with the vetting exercise.
“The speaker who chairs the assembly appointments committee upon perusal of the documents submitted noted such cases of non-fulfillment of the requirements of Section 7 of the Public Appointments (County Assembly Approval) Act, 2017” the statement read in part.
The County Executive on Friday 28th October through the office of the county secretary acknowledged the assembly’s request and provided the missing documentation.
Ogenga pointed out that the speaker upon perusal of the documentation provided noted that some vital provisions were missing and hence could not further proceed with the committee’s function until such were provided by the appointing authority.
“This communication is therefore meant to clarify that the speaker did not reject the submitted list,” he said.
Ogenga added that the assembly has already issued a notice to all the nominees and the public on the hearing and vetting of the CEC nominees with the set dates and time and they are preparing for the exercise as per the guiding laws.
