Six cops among 12 arrested for defying Kisumu curfew hours

The 12 were arrested on Saturday evening at 8pm at Black Perl bar and restaurant in Nyamasaria shopping centre.

They were booked at around 8.45 vide OB 35/19/6/2021.

Six police officers are among 12 people arrested in Kisumu for contravening curfew protocols.

The 12 were arrested on Saturday evening at 8pm at Black Perl bar and restaurant in Nyamasaria shopping centre.

They all appeared drunk before being taken to Kondele police station and later booked vide OB 35/19/6/2021.

According to a police report, five of the officers were from Nyagacho police station in Kericho while one was from Central Police Station in Nakuru.

Last week, the government revised curfew hours for  13 counties in the Western region from 10pm to 7pm.

The counties are; Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.

The counties were individually and collectively declared as Covid-19 hotspot zones.

“That the curfew within the hotspot zone shall be observed between 7pm and 4am daily,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

However, ongoing nationwide curfew shall continue to be observed in the rest of the country, from 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. daily.
