Six Suspects Arrested Over Fatal Shooting of Police Officer at Thika-Garissa Road Interchange

Six suspects linked to the fatal shooting of a police officer at the Thika-Garissa Road interchange on June 18, 2025, have been apprehended following a multi-agency operation led by detectives utilizing key forensic evidence.

The arrests were made in Kahawa West and Kiamumbi after a coordinated crackdown on what investigators described as a “well-orchestrated attack” that claimed the life of a police officer on duty.

Those arrested in Kahawa West include Joseph Ngotho Karanja, Benjamin Kambo Mwangi, Athanase Ndacaisaba, Kelvin Mbilika Ollingo, and Samuel Omurambi.

“Thanks to crucial forensic leads, detectives launched an operation that led them to a hideout in Kahawa West. There, they arrested Joseph Ngotho Karanja, Benjamin Kambo Mwangi, Athanase Ndacaisaba, Kelvin Mbilika Ollingo, and Samuel Omurambi. In the process, detectives seized a vehicle with registration number KDQ 529W, used by the suspects in committing the crime,” stated the DCI.

Detectives also recovered a vehicle bearing registration number KDQ 529W, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

The sixth suspect, Philip Muiruri Muchiri, was arrested separately in the Kiamumbi area following additional leads.

All six suspects were arraigned before the Thika Law Courts, where detectives secured a 21-day custodial order to facilitate further investigations.

Authorities have indicated that this period will be crucial for gathering more evidence, including ballistic and digital forensic analyses.

The case is scheduled for mention on August 11, 2025.
